Dear parents and players,

As tryout season approaches, we at North Star believe it's time to change the culture surrounding regional tryouts. We would like to make a few suggestions that may help shift the mindset and encourage a more positive and informed approach.

Firstly, we encourage both parents and players to view the tryout process as a consumer trying out a product. In this case, you are the consumer, and we, the club, are the product. By flipping the narrative, we return to a more normal perspective and can approach tryouts with a sense of exploration and evaluation.

To achieve this, we recommend the following steps:

1. Talk to parents and players who have been with the club and coach for a year or more. They can provide valuable insights into their experiences and offer an understanding of what the club has to offer. Their feedback can help you make an informed decision.
2. Participate in a routine training session. By joining a training session, you get a firsthand experience of the club's coaching methods, training environment, and team dynamics. This allows you to gauge if it aligns with your expectations and goals.
3. Observe a game or training session. Take the opportunity to watch a game or training session of the team you are considering. This will give you a chance to see the players and coach in action, assess their skills and tactics, and get a sense of how the team functions as a whole.

By engaging in these activities, you are actively trying out the club and coach. This shift in perspective empowers you to make an informed decision about whether the club is the right fit for you and your player.
